Me to We

Me to We is a new kind of social enterprise for people who want to help change the world with their daily choices.

Free The Children founders Craig and Marc Kielburger believe that creating true global change means empowering young people in North America to be active leaders in making this change come about. They achieve this goal by showing people how their everyday choices and actions can and do have an impact on our global community.

Me to We - Current school year at Blessed Sacrament

The Me to We meets a few times monthly and plans activities for the school year to raise awareness and funds for the developing world.

During the 2010-2011 school year

  • A group of 13 students, Ms. Quinn and Mrs. Cerre attended the "2010 Me Day" at Air Canada Centre on Thursday September 30, 2010. The event kicked off a year-long program for change, called We Schools in Action, inspiring a generation to care about social justice and to take action on local and international issues.
  • On October 29, 2010, the Me to We team participated in the Free the Children's Halloween for Hunger Campaign and asked all students to bring in food for the North York Harvest Food Bank in return for wearing their costume to school on October 29th.
  • On February 14, 2011, the Me to We team sponsored the annual Snowball Dance fundraiser and raised net proceeds of $5,200 which was used to build a windmill to bring clean water to a remote village outside of Dodoma, Tanzania, East Africa. TCDSB high school students constructed this windmill in July 2011 through the CPPS Water Projects.

During the 2009-2010 school year

  • February 2010: Knit One for me Purl Two for You club; each child completed two knitting projects, one of which went to an orphanage in Africa.
  • February 12, 2009: the annual Snow Ball Dance-a-thon (Hearts for Haiti Dance-a-thon) and a raffle raised $10,200 which was donated to Solidarity Haiti, a non-government organization dedicated to supporting projects in Haiti. The funds were directed to our sister school, Blessed Sacrament in Labegue, Haiti.

This charitable organization supports orphans in the region of Cluj, Romania, and helps build relationships and meets physical and emotional needs through ministry team retreats, dental clinics, summer camps, and team mentors.
  • December 2008: the team organized the Thanksgiving Food Drive and donated several boxes of food items to the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

History of Me to We at Blessed Sacrament

The Blessed Sacrament Me to We team was organized during the 2007-2008 school year by Mrs. Cerre and students and teacher coordinators attended the first National Me to We Day conference in October 2007. The goal of the annual conference is to motivate youth to raise awareness and funds for schoolbuilding, clean water wells, health care and alternative income programs in the developing world in the effort to help create global equality and end poverty.

They were asked to focus on the U.N. Millennium Goals and chose to focus their efforts on children's education. To accomplish this goal, they achieved the following:

  • sponsored the Snowball Dance-a-thon for St. Gaspar's
  • created the "Knit One for me Purl Two for You" club and made blankets for children at the Village of Hope AIDS orphanage in Dodoma Tanzania.

Thank you to the ME TO WE team
for making a difference!
