Blessed Sacrament Library
Welcome to your library!
This is your library, where students have the opportunity to read popular fiction books and magazines, research our extensive non-fiction section, produce reports and research material using the new netbooks and where teachers and parents also have resources available to them.
New fiction books!
On January 13, 2012, our Librarian Mrs. Grober purchased fiction books from funds raised at Indigo Day/Night - these books have now arrived in the library and students will be able to check out these new fiction books shortly.
Bookclub Blog
All students from grade 5 to 8 are welcome to join the Book Club Blog. We will be reading The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins; you can pick up a copy of this trilogy at the school library, your local public library or your nearest bookstore. With the forthcoming film showing in theatres shortly, the buzz around The Hunger Games is sure to keep building; read the book BEFORE you watch the movie!
Parents are responsible for attaining a copy of the book and previewing and approving the content for their child; students will be sharing his/her thoughts and ideas in a blog which is only open to Blessed Sacrament book club members. If parents are interested in having their child participate in this book club blog, they are asked to send a safe e-mail address to either Mrs. Grober or Ms. Moro in order for their child to be added to the blog.
Fundraisers
Twice a year, fundraisers provide funds to purchase more fiction and non-fiction materials to keep our library current:
- Indigo Day/Night: Yorkdale Chapters Indigo donates a portion of sales from Blessed Sacrament supporters. In the evening of the fundraiser, a raffle takes place along with Starbucks offering free coffee and hot chocolate. For 2010, the fundraiser was held on Tuesday November 30th and raised over $1,000 for our library!
The 2011 fundraiser was held on Thursday December 1st and raised over $1,000 for our library; the books purchased from the proceeds were added to the library in January 2012.
- Scholastic Bookfair: Scholastic provides books, posters and pencils/erasers for sale and donates a portion of sales to our library. For 2011, the fundraiser was held during the week of February 14-17, 2011 and raised over $2,800 for our library!
The 2012 fundraiser will be held the week of February 13-17, 2012.
