  • Banner Day (June 15th)
One of the rich traditions of BSCS is the Banner Day Celebration which started about 40 years ago as a way of connecting the students in grade 2, who received the Sacraments of First Communion and Reconciliation, and students in intermediate grades, who received the Sacrament of Confirmation. A highlight for our intermediate students (grade 7s and 8s) is to make banners for the grade 2s as a way for first communicants to continue to celebrate and remember their sacraments and be reminded how they can demonstrate their growth in faith through the years. The celebration will take place at Blessed Sacrament Church on Wednesday, June 15th starting at 9:30am. All are welcome!
  • Pass it On (June 15th-17th)
We will once again be supporting the St. Paul's Community at Queen & Parliament by collecting donations of gently used clothing, toys, books and household items (such as toasters, mixers, etc.). Students from JK to Grade 8 are being asked to wear mismatched socks (both tall and short) to highlight that even though stress can be overwhelming sometimes, we now have strategies we have learned to help us cope, and to remind us that beating stress means taking a new perspective and reminding ourselves to look for the humor in everyday life. • Upcoming BSCS Parent Community Survey (June 6-10)
The Catholic School Parents Committee will send a short survey via email during the week of June 6-10. We are asking that at least one adult in each family take the survey, which will take approx. 15 minutes, and is about fundraising activities at the school.
A similar survey was held four years ago, which helped us shape fundraising activities and prioritize our spending so that we meet the needs and desires of the majority of our parent community. The results have helped us to prioritize regular spending, and to shape fundraising activities to best fit the wishes of our parent community. While your CSPC Executive returns to the results of this survey regularly, the information is now out of date.
Once again, we would like to give the parent community the chance to make their voice heard. Next week's survey has some specific questions regarding some projects (e.g. play structures, technology) as well as events (the Gala, FunFair and Walkathon). There are about 15 questions, all with room for comments. And if that is not motivating enough, we even have prizes, both for individuals and for the class with the highest participation.
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and let us know what you think. We have a tremendously supportive parent community and we value your opinion.

  • Denim & Diamonds Gala
Thank you for making the CSPC's bi-annual fundraiser such a great success! We are pleased to announce our net funds raised was $36,221! This is an incredible accomplishment. Thank you -- to the many families and local businesses who gave us creative and generous donations, to the 250 parents who joined us and bid high, to those who couldn't join us but still gave generously with gifts from their businesses or other connections, to the teachers who helped the event succeed with their participation in art projects and presence at the event, to the amazing Denim and Diamonds Committee.
The funds raised at this event, together with those from Walkathon and Funfair, help support ongoing operational and capital expenditures at the school, as determined by the CSPC annual budget (proposed in June, and approved in October). Later this spring, CSPC will be surveying the parent community via email to ensure their budget recommendations continue to reflect the preferences of the majority of parents (our last survey was completed in 2012).
