March 6, 2012 Phase 2 Renovation Update: On Thursday, March 1st, renewal staff from the school board met with representatives of CSAC (CSAC Chair), teaching staff (teacher representative), school administration (school principal), and custodial staff (head custodian) to review the Phase 2 renovation plan to construct an additional classroom in the north-east area of the lower floor. All representatives at the meeting approved the plan so renewal staff can proceed with the necessary steps to have the Phase 2 renovation completed during the summer of 2012.

Parents can meet school staff, fellow parents and representatives from various daycares and community services.
  • BookFlix
The Ontario Ministry of Education has recently purchased a subscription to Scholastic’s BookFlix for K-Grade 3 students. BookFlix is an interactive, online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks with related nonfiction texts. This engaging resource will help early readers (K-Gr. 3) develop and practice essential reading skills. Bookflix is quite intuitive and easy to navigate. Go to the Library page for more information.

Traffic Safety ("Kiss 'n Ride" Program)

Kiss 'n Ride Program

Police on Bedford Park Avenue
Please be aware that as part of the on-going community safety support we receive from our local police department, Ms. Lawrence and myself met with a police constable to review student/pedestrian safety on Bedford Park Avenue. We continue to experience student/pedestrian safety concerns due to motor vehicle violations during our student arrival and departure times. Vehicles stop/park in our Bus Loading Zone, stop/park on the south side of Bedford Park Avenue, and stop/park within 9 metres of the Cross Walk on Bedford Park Avenue.
Police will be monitoring and ticketing persons in violation of NO PARKING and NO STOPPING signs on Bedford Park Avenue. Police will issue tickets for Cross Walk violations including vehicles that are stopped/parked within 9 metres of the Cross Walk (unless stopping to yield to crossing pedestrians).
Please use our parent supervised drop off areas outside the bus loading zone to drop off your children. Additionally, there is an unsupervised drop off area for grade 5- 8 students located on the south side of Woburn Avenue by our parking lot gate. We seek to prevent any student/pedestrian injury that could result from a motor vehicle accident.

Requests for periodic bus transportation
It has been brought to my attention that families not approved for bussing transportation address periodic requests to local school staff or bus drivers for bussing of a child who is not approved for bussing. Bussing is available to families who have qualified through the application process conducted with our school board transportation department. Unfortunately, for reasons of bus company/carrier liability, periodic requests for transportation of students not approved for bussing cannot be approved or accommodated by local school staff or the bus driver.

Green P Parking Lot
Our Community Liaison Police Officer has received complaints from school neighbours about vehicles stopped/parked illegally in the Green P Parking lot on the south side of Bedford Park Avenue; vehicles are stopping/parking in the through-traffic route that is perpendicular to the identified parking spots which is causing a hazard for persons using the parking lot.
We are reminded that the Green P Parking lot is a private parking lot for patron use of properly identified parking spaces. If any of our parents/guardians/staff are using the parking lot as a temporary stop or drop off area and not using properly identified parking spaces, we are asked to stop this practice.

Catholic School Advisory Council (CSAC) Events and Initiatives

Special Occasion Celebrations: Parents need to make arrangements through the classroom teacher to celebrate a special occasion at school. Please send a non-food treat such as stickers and pencils or donate a reading book to the class.
  • Student supplies
  • Electronic items Remain at Home
Please be reminded that electronic items, including cell phones, iPods/iPads, Gameboys, cameras, and other electronic items should remain at home. The school cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items.
