Drop Zones for the Traffic Safety Kiss and Ride Program
Kiss 'n Ride Program The Kiss and Ride program is again operating this school year; thank you for abiding by the guidelines of the program and the posted traffic signs to keep our kids safe!
The drop zones are as follows:
- JK and SK: kindergarten playground gate at north side of Bedford Park Avenue
- grades 1-4: west end of the school yard at north side of Bedford Park Avenue
- grades 5-8: east rear gate to school property at south side of Woburn Avenue
Safe Arrival Program Please call the school at 416-393-5226 if your child will be late or absent and leave a message on the answering machine; clearly state your child's name, grade level, teacher and reason for the absence. This voice mail option is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your support of this Safe School Arrival program is greatly appreciated.
Subway renovation We have received notification that renovations to the Lawrence subway at Bedford Park Avenue will be interrupting traffic on Yonge Street from April 1 to December 2010 which will result in additional traffic on Bedford Park Avenue and in our bus zones. Please follow the safety guidelines:
- do not park in the bus zone
- drop children off in the care of the parents and teachers on duty in the designated zones
- do not block the entrance or park in the staff parking lot
- utilize the crosswalk properly
For the safety of your child, do not park on the south side of Bedford Park Avenue to drop off students. Also, do not park in the school parking lot or drive way; the parking lot has very limited space that is used by teachers, support staff and TCDSB vehicles.
Current Events and Initiatives
Retirement Reception Thank you to the parents who organized the retirement reception for our three teachers who are retiring this year; memory books were presented to the teachers along with best wishes from parents and students.
Appropriate Dress Code An Appropriate Dress Code will be implemented in the fall of 2010; all students (JK to grade 8) will be expected to attend school dressed in navy blue bottoms and white or navy tops. Parents may purchase the clothing from any retailer of their choice and/or from R.J. McCarthy's Uniforms. Another R.J. McCarthy fitting/order day will be held at the school on Tuesday July 13 from 11am to 2pm. A Question and Answer pamphlet published by the TCDSB for parents is available.
Visit the Blessed Sacrament Appropriate Code page for more information.
First day of school The 2010/2011 school year for SK to grade 8 students will start at 8:30am on Tuesday September 7th. Grade 1 to 8 students should gather in the main school yard and will be greeted by their teachers; Senior Kindergarten students should gather in the Kindergarten yard. Since student names cannot be posted in the yard, students should check with their teachers to find their class. Junior Kindergarten students will receive a letter over the summer that will indicate their start date (JK students will be phased in during the first week of school).
