Work to Rule

Dear Families,
We are writing to inform all our families that as of Tuesday, May 17, 2016, all elementary Catholic school teachers in Toronto will begin a work to rule job action as directed by their union executive (Toronto Elementary Catholic Teachers--TECT).
While this is not an outcome favored by any members of our community, we know that by working together we can ensure this action has the least possible impact on our students.
I encourage you to visit the www.tcdsb.org website so you can inform yourself of the issues. It is the hope of the teachers and administration at Blessed Sacrament that these issues be resolved in a timely manner to the satisfaction of both parties.
As you will see in the attached directive, some regular activities in the school are suspended during this period. Our teachers are obliged to follow these guidelines. However, many of the daily activities that directly support each student's experience will not impacted - track and field, class trips, Grade 8 graduation and overnight trip, Grade 7 overnight trip, intermediate soccer, and our annual talent show to name a few. We greatly appreciate our teachers' commitment to ensuring these important activities continue to take place, despite the work to rule. Please be assured that our community has your children's best interests in mind at all times.
Attached is a letter issued by the Director of Education outlining key information. Also attached is a copy of the sanctions issued by the TECT Executive with direction for their members.
While we share your disappointment with this situation, we all remain hopeful that a resolution will be reached in a timely manner. At this point, we cannot predict what that timeline will be. However, we will continue to keep you apprised of developments and welcome you to contact us with your questions.
Yours in partnership,
Ms. Banfield and Ms. Attridge
